Data Quality Dashboard

Important: The Data Quality AM Score is only available for completed financial years.

The Asset Management Score, and a number of the Data Quality Metrics, require a complete financial year’s data. Because of this, you do not have the option of seeing the summary dashboard for the current incomplete financial year. You can look at the results list for the current year, but some metrics will not show a result and/or a trend.

Introduction to the Data Quality Dashboard

Te Ringa Maimoa is working hard to help the sector improve the quality of New Zealand’s transport related data to support evidence-based decision making and lift investor confidence through robust data. Te Ringa Maimoa has developed the Data Quality Project, an improvement programme designed to help RCAs address data quality issues. Details of the Data Quality Project are available on the Te Ringa Maimoa website.

In Transport Insights, the Data Quality Dashboard shows you how your Road Controlling Authority (RCA) is performing in the area of Data Quality compared to national, regional orand peer group figures.

Open the Dashboard

Select the Data Quality > Dashboard option in the Transport Insights menu.

Change the Financial Year by selecting the required year in the dropdown list in the Transport Insights heading.
The Dashboard displays the summaries of the Data Quality Metrics for your RCA and the chosen Financial Year.

If viewing the Data Quality Dashboard for Waka Kotahi, you can select All WK Regions to see the dashboard results for the entire WK network, or select a specific WK Region.

Remember the Data Quality dashboard summary is not available for the current incomplete Financial Year.
On the Dashboard summary tab for Data Quality Metrics, you can:
  • View metrics for Results Overall, by Category, Importance, and by Dimension.

  • See the Asset Management Score for the RCA for the financial year. The Score is calculated from the result metrics for the year, as follows:

Score = Round(100* (sum(grade scores)/sum(max achievable grade scores)),0)

Refer to the Transport Insights Asset Management Data Quality Report Score Calculation.

  • See Last Year's and This Year's results for your RCA. Both are calculated using the latest metric SQL, so the figures for a past year could be different to the published Annual Report results for that financial year.

  • Choose whether to compare your RCA summaries against National figures, your Region, or your Peer Group.

  • Save the results by clicking Export to PDF button in the top right of the Data Quality Metrics page.

  • Click a chart (or select the Results Table tab) to see the list of Metrics for your RCA.

The Results Table

Clicking the Results Table tab will show all your RCA metrics.

Clicking a graph shows the applicable Data Quality metrics.

You can:

  • Sort the Data Quality Metrics in the list by clicking the heading of the columns. The default order shows by Category, Sub-category, then Importance, then the metric codes.

  • Filter the Data Quality Metrics by combinations of Categories, Importance, Dimensions, Result, and whether the metrics are relevant to ONRC Performance Measures.

  • Save the results as a PDF file by clicking the Print button in the bottom right of the Filters tab.

  • Search for a specific Category, Type, Metric Description, Performance Measures Affected, Dimension, Importance level or Result in the Search box. For example, start typing the code of a Data Quality Metric to filter just to the metric.

If viewing the Data Quality Results list for Waka Kotahi, you can select All WK Regions to see the metrics results for the entire WK network, or select a specific WK Region.

The Data Quality Metrics

The Data Quality Metrics are grouped in categories and sub-categories. The category and sub-category of each metric is shown in the first column of the Results Table list.

Each metric is associated to one Dimension. The Dimensions for Performance Measure metrics are for data: Completeness, Accuracy and Timeliness.

Each metric has a graded result on a scale of one (green) to three (red). Metrics graded two (amber) or three (red) means a reduced confidence in data quality.

The trend indicators show the relative change in metric results between last year and this year. An up arrow represents an improvement in the metric result of at least 5%, a down arrow for a decrease of at least 5%, and a no change indicator if the result change is between a decrease of 5% and an improvement of 5%.  An indicator of "New" is displayed for metrics that had no reported result last year, even if the current year's result is 0.0.

Explanations of the Data Quality Metrics are available in the Data Quality Metric Library menu option in Transport Insights.

Further information on the REG Data Quality Project is available on the Transport Insights website’s data quality page.

Box and whiskers result comparisons

When looking at the metric results for an RCA (including Waka Kotahi All Regions), the box and whiskers graph shows where that RCA is compared to the rest of the RCAs.

When looking at the metric results for a Waka Kotahi Region, the box and whiskers graph shows where that WK Region is compared to the rest of the WK Regions.

Current and Part year results

You can see the results for some metrics for the current year, based on your latest import.

Some metrics will not show a result, and will instead show the message "No result displayed until data for this metric has been finalised for the financial year". These metrics must have a full year of data before the result can be considered valid.

Some metrics will show a result but show an (i) in the Trend column, with a hover message of "Part year result". This means the result is valid as at now, but should not be compared with last year's result until the current financial year is completed.
