NZTA Regional Evidence Pack (June 2025)
The NZTA Regional Evidence Pack (June 2025) aims to provide approved organisations and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) with an initial and consistent set of data and information. The purpose of the Pack is to help create a shared sector wide understanding of the current and future state of New Zealand’s transport system at a national and regional level, and of what interventions are likely to be effective to address identified deficiencies.
This is intended to help approved organisations in preparing regional land transport plans (RLTPs) and NZTA in preparing for the next National Land Transport Programme (NLTP 2027–30).
The Pack is not intended to be prescriptive or to replace local knowledge, judgement or local prioritisation of investment activities. The Pack is intended as a useful addition to the toolbox that NZTA and the wider sector have at our disposal. Use of evidence and/or insights from the pack is not mandated and is not considered to be a ‘compliance’ criterion.
HOW TO USE
Below are links to the individual chapters for each of the 14 regions, plus the Chatham Islands. The ‘Top of the South’ chapter combines Nelson, Tasman, and Marlborough.
As well as these separate regional chapters, the Pack contains a national view to help NZTA understand how the country is tracking in terms of transport outcomes in relation to investment. Also included is a national summary that aggregates all the regional information and provides an overview of the Evidence packs background and purpose.
If you have any updated evidence or data or corrections for your region or local area that could improve the Pack, please email your suggestions to: nltp@nzta.govt.nz
